Call-ins

Partnering with residents, law enforcement, and resource providers, community coordinators facilitate a community meeting that strategically communicates to drug offenders that their drug dealing activity must stop and that violence will not be tolerated. At the same time, the meeting shows offenders that there is an opportunity to change their lives and the community has come together to support them. Law enforcement first conducts an extensive investigation removing violent offenders from the community and pinpointing key drug dealers in the neighborhood. The community then, under the guidance of the community coordinators, organizes the Call-In. As a unified team, people come together to demand change in their neighborhoods.

During the Call-In the offenders are expected to be held accountable for their actions, and at the same time supported by a variety of residents, faith-based leaders, and resource providers to stop their drug activity and change their lives to become productive members of society. These offenders are given a choice; stop drug activity and take advantage of the resources being offered or face the consequences of arrest, prosecution, and incarceration. Contact is maintained before and after the Call-In with the drug offenders. It includes case management, mentorship, and strategic resource coordination offered to these individuals and their families. The Call-In occurs in a safe and respectful location in the targeted neighborhood and involves communicating a uniform message of change and hope.

A community circle.
